Community Banks have always had the responsibility of complying with the requirements of OFAC. The U.S. Treasury publishes a list of Specially Designated Nationals containing thousands of names of individuals and entities to whom the OFAC regulations apply. This list is updated regularly as new individuals and entities are identified. Cross referencing a community bank’s customers, vendors, and transactions with the SDN list is a daunting task due to the sheer volume of the list and the frequency of updates.
