Sharon Smith is the managing editor for BankNews magazine and editor of the company’s bank directories. She began her career covering the banking industry at BankNews Media in 1970. In her current roles, she writes and edits articles for BankNews and other company publications, as well as coordinates compilation of data and the production of the popular BankNews bank directories.

While at Kansas State University, Sharon was inducted into Theta Sigma Phi, a journalism organization. She is a past president of the Greater Kansas City Professional Chapter, now Association for Women in Communications. She has also shared her journalism skills with the Hospitalized Veterans Writing Project, publisher of Veterans’ Voices, and is a past president of HVWP. Sharon received both her B.S. and M.S. degrees in journalism from Kansas State University.

Prior to joining BankNews, Sharon taught journalism at Highland Park High School in Topeka, Kan., for four years. School publications during that time received national recognition. She was also a teaching assistant at Kansas State University while working on her master’s degree. In addition, Sharon has attended and has taught at workshops for high school teachers sponsored by The Wall Street Journal Newspaper Fund (now the Dow Jones Newspaper Fund Inc.) and was on the staff at a workshop for high school journalism students at Indiana University, Bloomington.
